Belarus and Georgia set to significantly intensify cooperation in various spheres

The Presidents of Belarus and Georgia have confirmed the countries’ intention to significantly intensify cooperation in various spheres. Alexander Lukashenko and Giorgi Margvelashvili met again at the Palace of Independence yesterday, the Belarusian President warmly welcoming his Georgian counterpart in the Winter Garden. Margvelashvili shared his impressions of staying in the country and visiting sports facilities. The two leaders exchanged views on the further development of bilateral relations.

The two days of the Georgian President’s official visit to Belarus have seen several negotiation rounds. Belarus and Georgia are interested in promoting cooperation. The volume of mutual trade has increased over the past year to approach 100 million dollars, which is a record observed over the past five years. Belarusian equipment exports, setting up joint ventures and service centres are among spheres of interest. The Belarusian leader suggested paying special attention to new initiatives. The hi-tech sphere has been actively developing in Belarus in recent years, and its products are already present in the Georgian market. Belarus is home to about 20 joint ventures and the same number of companies with Georgian capital.

The past two years have seen the intensification of contacts between the two countries, contributed to by dialogue between the leaders.
