Alexander Lukashenko to pay official visit to Dushanbe

By Natalia Breus: Fr om Sochi, wh ere the Eurasian Five met today, the Belarusian President headed for Dushanbe with an official visit. Tomorrow, Alexander Lukashenko will hold talks with the leader of Tajikistan – Emomali Rahmon. The two presidents will discuss the prospects for bilateral relations and options for expanding the cooperation.

Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries doubled and exceeded $40 million. But it is possible to increase the numbers still further and expand the list of export goods beyond tractors, oil products, and sugar. Over the last couple of years, they were able to reach out to direct supplies, and about half of Belarusian goods went to Tajikistan through Russia or the Baltic states.

Next, the two presidents will take part in the opening ceremony of the national exhibition of Belarus in Tajikistan. This will be one of the largest Belarusian exhibitions abroad in recent years. Tractors, self-unloading trolleys, and other assembly manufacturing products will be presented there. All in all, about 150 participants arrived in Dushanbe. This will be a global presentation of the possibilities of Belarus ranging from food products to medicine and IT.

Also, during the President’s visit to Dushanbe there will be a business forum, which will not be limited to participants of only two states. Representatives of business circles of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan also showed their interest in the event. Several contracts and memorandums of intent worth of tens of millions of dollars are expected to be signed.
