Belarus to hold local elections in one month

18 января 2018

Exactly a month remains before the local elections in Belarus. Today, the registration of candidates is over. Some regions have coped with registration ahead of schedule and campaigning has already begun there. Over 22,000 people decided to run for deputies of local councils. Preliminary figures suggest there’s a little more than one person per mandate.

Starting 13 February, early voting begins, and foreign diplomats will be able to participate in the monitoring of elections. Special ID cards will be issued for them. The term of such authority expires on the day of elections after the counting of votes is complete.
