Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine should be resumed, but should be held with the legitimate Ukrainian authorities. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this to journalists, BELTA reports.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia had never refused to negotiate with Ukraine. Moreover, he reminded, the parties reached preliminary agreements, but Ukraine's Western sponsors forced it to withdraw from the negotiation process.

"We see now that talk has resumed again that we should return to negotiations. Let them come back. But return, not on the basis of what one side wants, but on the basis of those agreements of principle that were reached during the difficult negotiations in Belarus and Turkey, and on the basis of today's realities on the ground. We are ready for it. And with whom to negotiate is certainly not an idle question," the President noted. - We realize that the legitimacy of the current head of state is over.

The Russian leader believes that one of the goals of the conference on Ukraine planned in Switzerland is precisely to have the Western community and Kiev's sponsors confirm the legitimacy of Vladimir Zelensky.

"But these PR steps are irrelevant for legal documents."
