Belarusian Foreign Ministry comments on the new restrictive measures of EU

28 февраля 2024

Almost 300 international observers followed the elections on a single day of voting in our country. They found compliance with all democratic norms and compliance of the campaign with the national laws. However, the U.S. and a number of EU countries, as usual, made the same critical assessments. Foreign Ministry of Belarus called cynical duplicity of the European Union's alleged support for the people of Belarus against the background of countless economic restrictions against our country. The ministry warned of the possibility of new criminal cases against the Western initiators of sanctions.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus responded to the Western shouts:

All the mentioned texts with conclusions prepared in advance contain nothing new. We consider them as continuing unsuccessful attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of our country. The sovereign right to govern their State belongs only to the Belarusian people. Illegal restrictive measures that are being introduced against Belarus are the subject of study by the law enforcement agencies and may become legitimate grounds for new criminal cases against the persons who initiated them, including those already convicted of similar crimes.

Brussels' support for neo-Nazis and complicity in the nationalist policies of the Kiev regime cannot be justified. The West's desire to blame Belarus for the migration crisis created by them cannot withstand criticism either. According to the European agency Frontex, the share of refugees from the entire eastern direction (excluding the territory of Ukraine) in 2023 amounted to only about 0.3% of the total flow of irregular migrants to the EU.

Interaction with some individuals receiving asylum and external funding in Poland and Lithuania, as well as calling for and carrying out proven activities to overthrow the legitimate authorities and break the constitutional order in Belarus by armed or terrorist means that the EU is consciously supporting criminals.

We can only hope that the results of the soon electoral campaigns in Brussels in 2024 will bring more responsible and sensible politicians, who will be able to return to the development of pragmatic relations with their neighbors, concluded the Foreign Ministry of Belarus. Meanwhile, instead of returning to an equal dialog to restore trust and ensure security in the region, the EU continues an unpromising and dangerous line of confrontation.
