During his official visit to Azerbaijan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honor in Baku, BELTA reports.

Alexander Lukashenko also laid flowers at the tomb of the spouse of the former President of Azerbaijan and, respectively, the mother of the current leader of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijan's socio-political prominent figures are buried on the Alley of Honor. Heydar Aliyev was buried here in December 2003. On the first anniversary of his death, a monument representing an artificial hill was unveiled at the grave. It symbolizes the politician's mountain homeland of Nakhchivan city. At the foot of the hill there is a granite pedestal on which the monument to the President stands.

According to tradition, all foreign delegations visiting Azerbaijan visit Heydar Aliyev's tomb and lay wreaths.

Alexander Lukashenko also laid a wreath at the monument "Eternal Flame" on the Walk of Shehids ("fallen heroes"). The ceremony was attended by members of the Belarusian official delegation.

The Shehid Walk was laid in memory of the victims of the events of January 20, 1990, who died during the Karabakh conflict. In 1998, the "Eternal Flame" monument was opened on the walk at the highest point of the city. The memorial is a tomb standing on an eight-pointed star, topped with a glass dome.
