Belarus to participate in final preparations for UN Summit for Adoption of Post-2015 Development Agenda

Belarus is scheduled to participate in the final stage of the preparations for the United Nations summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda today. The talks are planned to discuss the draft of the final document to be approved by the leaders of the Summit’s member countries in September. Belarus’ delegation - headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov - intends to continue promoting Belarusian initiatives, including the idea of ​​“the important role of the traditional family in sustainable development” and the need to strengthen the fight against human trafficking.

Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Department, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry: “Belarus takes an active part in international efforts in the field of development and has prematurely fulfilled five of the eight Millennium Development Goals. Work is underway to meet the Millennium Development Goals to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and form a global partnership for development by the end of 2015. In addition, Belarus’ representatives have contributed to the development of the Sustainable Development Goals in 17 areas, which will be adopted at the UN Summit in September in New York.”

The Summit, scheduled for 25 September, will sum up the implementation of the United Nations Millennium Declaration Goals established in 2000, and approve a new international agenda for development with a list of objectives and guidelines for international cooperation for the next fifteen years.
