Ambrazevich: US and EU use human rights as political tool of pressure

Belarus is ready to cooperate with everyone on human rights, but on an equal basis. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus at the session of the UN Council in Geneva.

Yuri Ambrazevich noted that today the U.S. and the EU use human rights as a political tool of pressure. This hinders the realization of sustainable development goals declared by the international community. The approach to the issue should be changed so that the protection of these rights would bring benefit to mankind rather than harm.

Yuri Ambrazevich, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus:

Due to their dominance in the international economy and in the international information space, the United States and the European Union countries use human rights as a pretext to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign and independent states, to impose economic and other restrictions against unwanted countries. It is obvious that such actions of the West directly violate the rights of ordinary people in the "punished" countries.

"Thus, human rights in their international dimension have long become a cause for strife and conflict instead of unification," Ambrazevich emphasized.

The diplomat noted that Belarus continues its work in the direction of improving the system of ensuring human rights protection in Belarus.
