The Small Rivers Festival, which is currently being held in Sharkovshchina in the Vitebsk region, has brought together more than 400 attendees. The event is the final stage of a large project on the protection of the region’s waterways. For two years, environmental club members, being by and large schoolchildren, have been conducting monthly researches of sampled water, posting the results on the Internet.
The project is due to officially be completed in September. Its organisers hope that in the future the environmental initiative will be of interest to other regions of Belarus, as well as of Latvia and Lithuania.
