Its main theme is Strengthening national mechanisms to protect children from neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation. Director of the Regional Office of UNICEF, Marie-Pierre Poirier acknowledges that the legislative experience of Belarus in this area is worthy of high praise. According to her, the international community is interested in the Belarusian experience in finding foster families for orphans, as well as returning them to their families.

Marie Pierre Poirier, Director of the Regional Office of UNICEF for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS countries:

The first reason why we are now here, is because Belarus has expressed its interest in establishing partnership with us and introduced this difficult topic for discussion. Indeed, Belarus has something to share with other countries in terms of its experience in this field.

The UNICEF Conference is held under the initiative of Belarus. It will last 2 days. Its participants will exchange views, experiences and best practices in the creation of effective systems of child protection, strengthening inter-agency cooperation. Current problems of the countries of the region will be discussed as well.
