According to the Central Election Commission, there are over 22,000 of registered candidates for deputies of local councils. Half of the candidates are women. There is also positive dynamics in terms of the age of the candidates. Over 1,000 people are under 30.
Diplomats from Russia, France and the United Kingdom expressed their will to participate in the monitoring of local elections in Belarus. The embassies of these countries have already submitted all the required documents. Also, US diplomats plan to take part in the monitoring as well. International observers are free to choose their own polling stations. Their term of office in elections to the local councils of deputies is from 13 to 18 February.
Also, the CEC announced the preliminary voter turnout figures, although no threshold has been established at local elections in Belarus. The turnout is expected to exceed 60%.
