Complete genetic analysis of coronavirus in Belarus performed

A unique study for Belarus. Gomel Medical University and the Forest Institute of the National Academy of Sciences conducted a complete genetic analysis of Belarusian isolate of COVID-19. The data have already been entered into the international database. This was done by Belarusians for the first time. 10 people worked on the project, equipment rare for our country was used, including a fully genome analyzer, the only one in Polesie District. More than 30 medical institutions from all over the region sent biological materials. The results of the research helped to fully assess the evolution of the virus. According to experts, the strain of Belarusian localization does not have aggressive properties.

This information can help in the development of vaccines and antiviral drugs for the treatment of COVID-19.
