National Poet of Belarus Ryhor Baradulin dies at 79

The renowned poet and translator was born into a peasant family in the Ushachi district. Baradulin's first poems were published in the Chyrvonaya Zmena newspaper. Ryhor Baradulin wrote about 70 poetry books and was awarded the Yanka Kupala Prize, Order of Friendship of Peoples, Order of the Badge of Honor and Francysk Skaryna medal. Baradulin is the Honorary Doctor of BSU and Honorary Citizen of the Ushachi district. In 1992, Ryhor Baradulin became the last Belarusian to be awarded the National Poet title.
