The unique operation of saving a moose cub hit at a highway was carried out in Lida. The animal with broken legs was spotted on the side of the road by partial citizens. The veterinary services and forestry representatives arrived at the scene. Most likely the animal was hit by a car and was in critical condition. A private veterinary center responded to the call for help. The cases of rescuing wild animals had already occurred, but it was the first time a 25-kilogram moose was put on the operating table. Specialists had to connect and fix broken bones with special titanium plates.

Pavel Zhulpa, veterinarian:

There were certain difficulties, namely in anesthesiology. The moose cub  was not able to breathe during the first minutes of anesthesia. As a result, an artificial lung ventilation device was connected. And it helped us. The operation lasted about three hours, everything went very smoothly.

The little moose started walking a few hours after the surgery. He is now kept in an enclosure at the Lida Veterinary Station. He is being properly cared for there. Rehabilitation will take at least a month. After the patient fully recovers, it will be transferred either to the forest nursery farm or to one of the country's zoos.
