New draft of Education Code takes effect

03.01.2023 21:18

New rules for admission to universities come into force. Today, the document was signed by the head of state. In particular, the list of applicants who can be admitted to an educational institution without examinations, and the lists of those who will be accepted without competition, was expanded. Internal examinations for 11th graders in two subjects were combined with the entrance exam.

The fact that the admission campaign of 2023 will not be the same became clear at the beginning of 2022 after the approval of the new wording of the Education Code, which distinctly outlines new approaches to the training and selection of the staff.

In 2023, the applicants will for the first time take a centralized exam in two subjects: one of the state languages, and the second is given to the choice. Thus, Russian language cannot have to be taken twice - at school and during the CT. But the CT will not be abolished altogether, either; such a form will be retained for testing the knowledge of other subjects.

Yuri Miksyuk, director of the Republican Institute for Knowledge Control:

Tests or tasks are created on the basis of the school program, in structure and level of complexity they will be the same. All applicants will take a test for all the subjects they choose on a single day. This shortens the procedure and gives applicants time, for those who wish to go on to higher education institutions or get ready for internal exams or the CT.

The centralized exam has more tasks, where you do not need to choose the offered option, but to write your own. It will be held in May, so as to have time to prepare for the university examinations or the CT. Such a format was already seen by future university entrants from the regional centers at the end of January (a trial exam will be held in each region). One hundred and sixty-four stations have been organized. The Ministry of Education has already calculated that 53 thousand graduates will take the centralized exam in the coming May, the winners of the final stage of the Republican Olympiad will be released and not only.

Andrei Ivanets, Minister of Education of Belarus:

This is an opportunity for our talented, gifted children who prove themselves in certain academic subjects, already consciously studying in grade 10 or 11, to choose a profile in which in the future they want to go to university and using the Olympiad regional or university, or national level Olympiad to enter the regional or metropolitan universities.

This year they also return the experience of holding university Olympiads - their winners will be enrolled in universities without exams. Experts say that the measure will partially help consolidate gifted youth there.

In general, everything in the document has been thought through to the last detail. This is the result of widespread discussion. Public opinion played a significant role. Proposals and amendments remained under the control of the head of state.
