KGB of Belarus has prevented attempts to commit terrorist attacks in the run-up to May 9. This was stated to reporters by KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel, BelTA informs.

The agency head said that information about the relevant facts is going to be made public on May 10. "These events were associated, in our view, with May 9. This was an attempt to stir up the situation. The head of state is aware of these moments. They detained a certain number of people who were preparing to commit terrorist attacks. And we know that the security services were behind it. I don't want to open up completely today. Tomorrow we will try to say everything," Ivan Tertel said.

"There were attempts to organize terrorist attacks in our country. And we believe that they were tied to the Victory Day," said the KGB head.

He noted the importance of citizens' vigilance, without which the work of any security service would not be as effective. "This case shows how they try to engage our young people, our students in committing terrorist attacks. Sometimes people don't realize that they are acting somewhere on the edge of the law," Ivan Tertel said.

"The situation in the world right now is very, very turbulent. We are waiting for an escalation of the situation around our country. We're working on behalf of the President to ensure that nothing happens that could disturb the peace of our citizens. We are doing everything necessary to this end," assured the head of the KGB.

This work is carried out jointly with the police and the State Border Committee. The work on the state border has been stepped up. This is a preventive measure.
