Group of Belarusian polar explorers leave for the Antarctic

8 ноября 2018

This is the 11th trip to the South Pole. It is not a secret that the main task for the upcoming season is the continuation of the construction of the Belarusian polar station. 116 tons of equipment, fuel and food are sent to Antarctica. One of the most important components is medicines.

The expedition will carry out five scientific programs. However, in terms of technology, this is a real innovation. For example, new measuring instruments developed at the National Academy of Sciences are introduced into the station equipment. The Caribou underwater vehicle will allow not only to collect samples, but also to monitor the physical and chemical state of coastal waters, and therefore to evaluate the biological productivity of the sea depths. The expedition includes the youngest specialist Vladislav Bazylevich. His task is to measure the ozone layer of the atmosphere. At 23, this is his first trip so far from home.

Another innovation is the international composition of the expedition. For the first time, one Russian researcher will be included. His task is to conduct satellite observations for the national space program.
