Head of CSTO PA observers: Elections organized in accordance with the standards of international law

24 февраля 2024

Elections in Belarus are clearly held in accordance with the law and as transparent as possible. This is invariably noted by foreign observers, who closely monitor the voting process in different parts of our country.

Election experts are united by the mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which includes representatives of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. This is the largest mission of 235 people. There are about 20 observers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as representatives of election bodies of foreign countries.

Thus, the head of the CIS observer mission is going to visit at least six polling stations today. Sergei Lebedev notes the planned and measured electoral process and the excellent organization of the single day of voting.

The observers of the CIS mission have traveled to all regions of Belarus. Many experienced experts have something to compare with and something to advise Western critics.

Sergei Lebedev, head of the CIS observer mission:

Those Western observers, preachers of democracy have no moral right to impose their rules on us and issue any recommendations on the organization of elections. Our leaders, including Alexander Lukashenko, say that we hold elections for ourselves, in the interests of our states. Belarus holds elections in accordance with its national legislation in the interests of its citizens.

According to Sergei Lebedev, there is an inherent tradition to communicate with local observers at polling stations. This gives an opportunity to draw a broader and more complete picture for the subsequent formation of an objective conclusion.
