The Prosecutor General of Belarus is checking the former President's involvement in the battalions carrying out punitive operations in the territory of Belarus in 1944. In this regard, investigative group wants to question 94-year-old Valdas Adamkus. Minsk sent a request to the competent authorities of Lithuania. There is information that none other than Voldemaras Hubertas Laimutis Adamkavicius entered the staff of the so-called Army of Defense of the Fatherland, swearing voluntarily, to serve as an aid of Minsk Butcher.

As a result of the genocide more than 2 million people died in the territory of the BSSR.

After the liberation of the Belarusian and Lithuanian lands from the German fascist invaders, a part of the punishers of the Lithuanian volunteer units, including the Minsk Butcher and his assistant Adamkavicius hid in the territory of Germany and in the USA in order to avoid responsibility for their crimes. Over time, this man changed his name, and in the 1990s he held the highest public office of  the President of the Republic of Lithuania.

During the investigation of the criminal case it is necessary to clarify the role of each of the already established members of the Lithuanian battalion as well as the role of Valdas Adamkus in the genocide of civilians. The Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus believes that their Lithuanian colleagues have enough responsibility and common sense to fulfill their international obligations in good faith.
