South-eastern territories of Mogilev Region see rapid development

16 мая 2021

The development programme for the south-east of Mogilev Region has been running for the second five-year period. The large-scale economic and social renovation of the region started in 2015, when the President signed the relevant decree.

Seven districts, including Klimovichi, Slavgorod and Cherikov, received strong state support in the form of benefits and preferences.  The program was prolonged until 2025 by the President's decision last year. The emphasis is still on local raw materials, agriculture, the social sphere and attracting investment.

Why so much attention to these particular areas? Six of the seven districts are victims of the Chernobyl accident. For this reason, the population was reduced, a large part of the agricultural land was taken out of circulation, which also affected their development.

It is worth recalling that a similar program is to be implemented in the Chernobyl-affected lands of Gomel Region. It was proposed by the President in late April as he was visiting the south of the country.
