This was stated to journalists by Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives Alexander Barsukov. Today, on the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl catastrophe, he took part in the ceremony of laying baskets with flowers at the memorial signs "To the Victims of Chernobyl" and "Hiroshima Peace Stone" in the Park of Friendship of Peoples in Minsk, BelTA correspondent reports.

"He, who does not remember the past, has no future. It was not invented by you and me. There should be a link between generations," said Alexander Barsukov. - It is necessary to remember all those who took part in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident. It is necessary to remember those people who risked their lives, their health and fulfilled their duty".

According to him, even today it is difficult to remember that period. "In our detachment I was the youngest. I was 21 years old," the liquidator noted. - It is necessary to remember all our past. It is desirable to learn from other people's mistakes. Chernobyl was not our misfortune, it came to us from Ukraine. Who helped us? That's why Belarus remembers."

38 years ago, on April 26, 1986, the worst man-made disaster in the history of mankind - the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant - took place. Its consequences have affected many countries in one way or another.
