The updated National Security Concept includes a new type of threat - biological. Today, this topic is increasingly heard in the public discourse. The relevant infrastructure is already available near the borders of Belarus. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State even publicly recognized the presence of U.S. bio-research facilities in Ukraine. Belarus is ready for this challenge.

“For the first time in this concept a comprehensive concept of biological safety as a state of protection of the population, animals, plants and the environment from the impact of dangerous biological factors was introduced. The system of evaluation indicators of the state of national security of the Republic of Belarus in the biological sphere was fixed. In addition, in 2023, the Council on Biological Security was established under the Council of Ministers with the participation of key stakeholder agencies. All these measures together have contributed to increasing the effectiveness of the national coordination structures in this area. I am confident that joint efforts will make it possible to improve the protection of our country from the impact of both known and new biological hazards. It is important to note that all the new provisions of the concept have a clear scientific basis. All the issues have been tested by us and are now yielding concrete practical results.”
