300 years since birth of George Konisski celebrated in Mogilev

George Konisski stood at the origins of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus. He was one of the first episcopes of the Orthodox Church in the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The 300th anniversary since the birth of politician, diplomat, teacher and writer George Konisski was celebrated in Mogilev. A big sacred procession was held fr om the Transfiguration Cathedral to the house wh ere the prominent figure had lived. George Konisski was engaged in the erection of temples. For the first time in Belarus, thanks to George Konisski, sky observations were made.

Pavel, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, characterizes George Konisski as an unshakable pillar of standing for the Orthodox faith, a symbol of people's reconciliation.

Thousands of people have honored the memory of Saint George Konisski today.
