Avant-garde icons exhibited in Minsk

11 марта 2015

Minsk gallery exhibits an international exhibition of contemporary images of saints including more than 40 works created by artists from different countries.

By the early 20th century icons were created only by priests after strict fasting and prayer. Contemporary artists, students of iconographic schools create icons themselves. They adhere to the canons and authentic technologies, but present evangelical topics in a different way.

Artists exhibited in the Minsk gallery represent different denominations: Orthodox, Catholic, Uniate. The shape and design of the icons is unconventional too.

After international exhibitions and presentations part of the collection will be exhibited in the Polish Museum, and the rest of the icons will be given to churches that are ready to such innovations.
