Traces of ancient inhabitants of Belarusian lands presented in Archaeological Museum in Minsk

The remains of mammoths, fossils of the first forms of life dating back to hundred million years ago. A round skull, bones of the woolly rhinoceros, a tooth of a cave bear. The exhibition features more than 180 animal fragments, which were mostly found by chance during building works. A significant part of the exhibition is devoted to the mammoth and forest elephants, pieces of tusks, teeth and bones belonging to more than 10 ancient animals.

The first mammoth skeleton found in the territory of Belarus in Grodno region was found in the beginning of the 17th century. It was exhibited in Mir church of St. Nicholas, as an example of an animal that did not survive the Biblical Flood.
