Legendary composer, People’s Artiste of Belarus Igor Luchenok passes away

The composer who is known and loved by many generations Igor Luchenok has passed away. Friends and colleagues reported on the death of the national artiste of Belarus in social networks.

His work has become a truly hallmark of the country. Igor Luchenok is the author of many works that remain popular decades later. He composed music in free-symphonic, chamber-instrumental, chamber-vocal and, of course, in the song genres. The latter brought him national love. "Alesya", "Polka Belarusian", "May Waltz". His compositions to poems of Belarusian and Russian poets were performed by Pesnyary, Syabry, Verasy, Iosif Kobzon, Lev Leshchenko, Sofia Rotaru, Valentina Tolkunova and others. For many years, Igor Luchenok was the principal of the Belarusian State Conservatory, and headed the Belarusian Union of Composers. On August 6, he celebrated his 80th birthday.

In early November, the composer suffered a massive stroke. After that, he was put into a state of artificial coma, from which, unfortunately, he never came out. The date and place of farewell to the composer is not reported.
