Today marks World Poetry Day

By Olga Medved: Today marks World Poetry Day. Originating in the 1930s in the USA, the idea was supported by UNESCO in 1999. Poetry Day should give fresh recognition to international poetry movements.

A collection of works by Taras Gushcha, also known as Yakub Kolas, dates back to 1928 and has previously never been exhibited. The unique edition has been brought up fr om the archives of the Yakub Kolas State Literary and Memorial Museum to mark World Poetry Day.

Yakub Kolas’ house, wh ere the museum is located, was once a center of poetic meetings, bringing together his friends and fellow writers. In the year marking the national poet’s birth anniversary, an exhibition has been set up in the museum, featuring his personal belongings, correspondence, manuscripts and rare photos.
