Eugene Onegin opens Minsk International Christmas Opera Festival

13 декабря 2022

Eugene Onegin has opened the Minsk International Christmas Opera Festival at the Bolshoi Theater in Belarus.

For the twelfth time, voices from Lithuania, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia will sing on one stage in Minsk. Contrary to the calls to cancel the classics and boycott the forums, the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus organized a tour in a record two months term.

Tchaikovsky opens the festival, the marathon will be continued by Puccini, Donizetti and Rossini performed by Belarusians and guests. And there has been no talk of abolishing Western culture, just as they try to abolish Russian art.

Valery Kiryanov, chief conductor of the Helikon Opera Moscow Musical Theater:

“The latest example is the premiere of Boris Godunov at La Scala. What kind of cancellation of Russian culture can we talk about? Europeans are not inherently hostile to Russian composers. You understand that for a musician, for a professional, there is an understanding of musical schools. It's a completely different, interesting thing. You can't abolish culture. This is nonsense. The opera is triumphant at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus until December 18. The culmination, when the world art will have no borders and differences, will happen at the gala concert.”
