The celebration of cinematographers and professional holiday for hundreds of industry professionals was officially established on December 17, 1994. On this day in 1924, the decree "On film production in the BSSR" was issued, the establishment of the Department of Cinematography and Photography - "Belgoskino", as well as the first chronicle footage of the events of those years.

Two years later the Belarusian audience saw the debut domestic "action movie" - "Forest Bull" by Yuri Tarich, based on the story by Mikhas Charot.
