UN Development Goals discussed in Minsk

25 февраля 2018

The Regional SDG Coordination Leaders Forum was held in Minsk this week.

The International Congress gathered delegations from more than 40 countries. Our country was the initiator of this meeting.

The goals of sustainable development were adopted at the historic UN summit in 2015. The list of 17 goals is aimed at elimination of poverty, combating inequality and injustice, and addressing the challenges of climate change. Belarus takes active part in the realization of 17 planetary priorities. We have made a number of steps to achieve these goals. The Government approved the National Strategy for Sustainable Social and Economic Development for the period until 2030. The work in this area is carried out by the state in cooperation with business circles, civil society and international organizations.

Life proves that the policy of security is a priority today. Official Minsk hopes that the current dialogue will activate collective work in the region in the name of peace and prosperity. This year Belarus will host several broad discussions on security issues in the region. At a meeting with First UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, Alexander Lukashenko confirms that Belarus will always be a reliable support for the United Nations.
