Belarus 24 marks 10th anniversary

By Polina Ivancha: The satellite TV channel Belarus 24 was established on the initiative of the President 10 years ago. It was designed as an image-building channel aimed at presenting objective information about Belarus to multimillion audiences around the world. Over the last 3 months of 2014, the channel’s viewership in Russia has exceeded 20 million people.

On 1 February 1, 2005 the journalists of the then Belarus TV first went on the air. On that day, Belarus’ news was broadcast to the entire post-Soviet space, Poland and Australia. By the end of the year, the channel’s potential audience around the world reached 5 million viewers. Today, after 10 years, Belarus 24 is viewed by at least 270 million people on four continents.

Belarus 24 keeps springing surprises every year. In particular, next week will see the debut of the Typical Day programme. On Monday Belarus 24 will air the new daily evening show Accents, which will present the main news of the day and complement another joint project of the channel’s journalists and Belarusian radio – the news briefing entitled 90 Seconds.

Belarus 24 produces more than 10 unique projects and broadcasts around the clock. Given the fact that the channel’s staff comprises of just 20 people, it would have been impossible without the help of colleagues, in particular the journalists of Belteleradiocompany’s TV News Agency. One of such collaborations is the interview project 24 Questions. Lens Conference with Andrei Krivosheyev.

For almost two years, every Saturday the week’s most important events have been presented to international audiences in the programme Belarus 24. Events of the Week. The famous programme Customs Union has been replaced with the Without Borders project, which is available online, just like other programmes of the channel.
