Alexander Lukashenko visits Church of Nativity of Blessed Virgin in Orsha

Today, the Orthodox world celebrates the glorious feast of the Resurrection. Belarusians welcomed it in prayer on the night services throughout the country. The Resurrection of Christ marks the victory of life over sin and death and the beginning of the world, redeemed and sanctified by Jesus Christ. The main Easter services were held in Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral. They were held by the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Pavel.

The President of Belarus congratulated believers with the great feast of Easter. Alexander Lukashenko visited the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Orsha. President was welcomed by the rector of the church, Archbishop of Orsha and Vitebsk Demetrios, and dozens of believers. The President lit a candle and prayed before the icon of the Resurrection of Christ.

By tradition, the President of Belarus and Archbishop of Orsha and Vitebsk Demetrios exchanged gifts. Alexander Lukashenko received an icon "The Last Supper". In response, the church was given an icon "Christ Pantocrator".
