By Andrei Krivosheyev: Belarus made its choice on 11 October by voting for a sovereign, progressive and fair version of history, remaining a reliable ally for the East and an understandable partner for the West. Alexander Lukashenko’s victory with a huge turnout and an overwhelming advantage is the victory of an open, fair and social development model. The elections have shown that a new level of political culture and a clear civil stance of society have formed in Belarus. However, the main winner of the elections is the Belarusian people, proving to itself and the world that it is able to choose and protect its own and the state’s future independently, transparently and democratically.
Elections are always stressful for any country and any society. The Belarusians managed to pass the stress test with dignity, even in the difficult times. At this week’s large-scale meeting on personnel issues the President called the forthcoming year a complex one. It will also be a test for the power vertical. Therefore, Alexander Lukashenko demanded that managers at all levels should be disciplined, decent and initiative. Belarus does not need reckless experiments, the main criterion for state management efficiency being the safety and interests of the people.
