In the new digital economy, the crucial factor is going to be the ability to imagine. This was stated by the director of the Hi-Tech Park Belarus Vsevolod Yanchevsky within the framework of the round table "IT-education and IT-industry. Development strategy". Representatives of the leading Belarusian IT companies and university faculty from Minsk and regional cities gathered at the HTP this week to discuss the serious challenges facing the national IT education.

Participants noted two main issues. First, training programmes are lagging behind the rapid changes in the IT industry. Second, there aren’t enough university teachers with the necessary technical qualifications. Training programmes do not pay enough attention to software architecture, modern software and technologies. Curricula are often far from the needs of the market and have no practical focus.

Last December, the President of Belarus outlined the strategic course for the IT-country and signed the Decree "On the Development of the Digital Economy". The document gives IT companies the opportunity to provide sponsorship and special grant grants to talented teachers and students.

Priorities in the IT industry of Belarus are now the development of their own IT products. In the near future, the requirements for the quality of training of IT staff will be even higher. Also, the HTP will actively develop the latest trends in information technology.
