Following a number of major banks, the International Monetary Fund is also improving the forecasts of the growth of the Belarusian economy. Such forecasts were announced today in Minsk by the head of the mission of the foundation for Belarus Peter Dolman at the end of the next round of consultations in our country.

The current visit of the fund's experts is an annual event for Belarus.

Peter Dolman, head of the IMF mission for Belarus: "We assume that economic growth will reach about 1.7% in 2017, and in the medium term, it will remain at about 2%."

The head of the mission also recognized that economic growth is not only due to favorable external conditions, but is the outcome of the decisive actions of the government and the National Bank. Among the priorities (in addition to reaching the payback of housing and communal services) is also the efficiency of the public sector. The IMF suggests revising the policy of supporting state enterprises.

Peter Dolman, head of the IMF mission for Belarus: "The public sector in Belarus should not rely solely on state aid. This does not allow your country to ensure sustainable development of the economy in the future."

In general, the talks were held at a high level. The dialogue is successful. This assessment of the interaction with the IMF was given today by the organization's executive director for a group of countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

Discussions with the Belarusian government will continue in the future. The head of the mission stressed today that Belarus is a reliable partner of the fund for a quarter of a century.
