Peak-reserve energy sources built in Novopolotsk and Novolukoml

Vitebsk power engineers have started the construction of peak-reserve energy sources at Lukoml GRES and Novopolotsk CHP. These projects are part of measures to integrate Belarusian NPP into the unified energy system of Belarus. New gas turbine plants will be built in Novolukoml and Novopolotsk, which will be used as safety sources of electric energy. A similar scheme is successfully used in many countries. Equipment for peak-reserve energy sources is highly maneuverable. It will take no more than 15 minutes to start it up and fill the power deficit in the power system. For example, in order to start the units of Lukoml GRES from a cold state, it takes several hours.

Mikhail Luzin, General Director of RUE Vitebskenergo: "We will have Lukoml GRES in the cold reserve of the nuclear power plant. That is, if equipment is disconnected at the nuclear power plant, the routine will be maintained on any equipment regularly. The unit at the nuclear power plant is shut down, four units at Lukoml SDPP are switched on in order to meet the country's needs for electric energy. We have worked for a month. The atomic unit at the nuclear power plant has been turned on, our units have been turned off and remain in reserve."

Another large-scale project is being implemented in the north of the country. The construction of heat sources with electric boilers is being carried out. New boilers have been built that will use electric energy and provide reliable heat supply to consumers at Lukoml GRES and Severnaya CHPP in Vitebsk.
