President urges to monetise science

In his recent address, the Belarusian President put an end to years of conflict between science and business, scientists and entrepreneurs. The former stated that their projects were gathering dust in the Academy of Sciences’ laboratories with no attention from manufacturers. Business, in turn, blamed science for the absence of a more or less attractive product that can not only be produced, but also sold profitably. In this confrontation, the Belarusian leader sided with the scientists, but with personal responsibility to be borne by the head of the Academy of Sciences.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus: “Belarus’ Academy of Sciences can actively develop space exploration, the nano- and bio-industries and robotics. There has always been a problem in the scientists’ inventions being unclaimed by manufacturers. Responsibility should be taken by the head of the National Academy of Sciences with reports on implementation to be submitted to the President.”
