Having two nuclear power plants would be very and very beneficial for Belarus. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at the meeting on improving the system of planning and control over the implementation of strategic projects, BelTA informs.
The head of state called the Belarusian nuclear power plant one of the strategic projects. He recalled that the country had not been engaged in such technologies before, while the construction of the nuclear facility led to the emergence of a new industry. They took up the implementation of this project with the insistent suggestion of the President.
"Two sites were chosen, one plant was built. And today our consumption of nuclear power to the total electricity consumption is higher than in the United States and even in Russia. We are replacing about a quarter of the total at the expense of the peaceful atom. Today I am carefully bringing you to the point that it would be good to have a second nuclear power plant in the country. It is very, very profitable," the head of state said.
According to him, such elaborations are underway at the initial stage. "Either we add two blocks at the existing site, or we build two more blocks in Mogilev Region, where we have a second site. And then we will get more than half of our electricity from the nuclear plant. A clean, very profitable product," emphasized the Belarusian leader.
