Latvian authorities: Destroy the monument, punish for the flowers

In Latvia, they have found a way to stop "economic treason". That is how the Latvian authorities regard the trips of their citizens to Belarus in order to buy cheap goods and fuel. At first, the Latvians were threatened with recruitment by the KGB, arrests and imprisonment in an asylum. Now they came up with an idea to change the law: from now on, it will be possible to import duty-free goods for personal consumption not once a week, but once a month. The limit remained the same - 300 euros. The authorities hope that the flow of Belarusian goods will go down fourth-fold.

At the same time, the Latvian authorities denied the request to transfer the monument to the soldiers-liberators of Riga to the Leningrad Region. The monument will be dismantled in the coming weeks. The Russian Governor offered to take the monument in order to install it in his region. Latvia procrastinated for a month and a half with a response, and today announced that the law requires the destruction of the monument. The repressive campaign has also intensified. It is announced that three policemen have been demoted for not preventing the laying of flowers at the monument to the liberators of Riga on May 9. Criminal and administrative cases brought in connection with the same Victory Day are also investigated.
