Hungary demands Patriarch Kirill to be excluded from sanctions list

There is new evidence of a rift in the ranks of the EU states, inventing more and more sanctions. Hungary has demanded not to include Patriarch Kirill on the list of people subject to restrictive measures, Bloomberg News Agency reports. The possibility of adding the head of the Russian Orthodox Church to the sanctions list was raised in Brussels several weeks ago.

A few days ago the same Hungary forced the EU to abandon a complete embargo on purchases of Russian oil: hydrocarbons delivered to the EU via oil pipelines were excluded from the ban. The EU sanctions strategy is beginning to fail: the EU countries are becoming increasingly aware that the restrictions are damaging not so much to Moscow as to those who are trying to punish it.
