Monument to Liberator Soldiers may be blown up in Riga

Europe is competing in the options for destroying historical memory. The most radical ones are already at the top of the list of ways to get rid of monuments. The authorities of Riga are thinking about blowing up the monument to the soldiers-liberators. Such a proposal is being considered by the Riga City Council. It would have to be dismantled by November 15. The vice-mayor of the Latvian capital has already held a meeting with businessmen who wished to participate in this high-profile event. The authorities banned the march in defense of the memorial. Thus the idea of destruction of the monument is unpopular even among the Latvians:  a poll of one of the local newspapers showed that 79 % are against the demolition. The police promised to apply the strictest measures to the participants of the march.
