Minsk hosts a meeting of contact group on the problem of Ukraine

6 мая 2015

Its participants will discuss the situation in Donbass and local elections

Adelheid Tagliavini, the OSCE representative in the Contact Group: "We have laid the foundation for a possible settlement of all the issues at the negotiating table, not in the battlefield."

Leonid Kuchma, Ukraine's representative in the Contact Group: "For us the most important thing today is three things: cease of fire, withdrawal of heavy weapons and verification by the OSCE. I can not help saying kind words to Belarus and Alexander Lukashenko. In order to organize such work, there should be a desire, and there is no doubt the desire of the Belarusian side."

Azamat Kulmuhametov, Russia's representative in the Contact Group: "The today's meeting is a serious step towards political settlement. Of course, progress in terms of a political settlement will facilitate ceasefire and resolve security issues."

Representatives of the self-proclaimed republics, in their turn, declared their readiness to carry out a set of measures envisaged by Minsk Protocol and noted the constructive nature of the talks. There are no serious contradictions between the parties, noted the negotiators. It is expected that the meetings of sub-groups in the Belarusian capital will be resumed in the second half of May.
