Public utility bill arrears accrue in Lithuania

8 февраля 2022

The heating networks of major Lithuanian cities report a significant debt of citizens on utility bills: by January 1, the amount of underpayments in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda was 13.5 million euros. However, in January and February an especially sharp growth of arrears of utility payments is expected in connection with a significant increase in tariffs: they increased twice throughout the year, so the bill of 150 or 200 euros for a modest two-bedroom apartment in Lithuania is an ordinary case. And these data of public opinion poll can't help worrying the local authorities: 12% percent of Lithuanians do not have enough money for food, and 20% of residents are unable to pay their heat and power bills.
