Baltic States actively promoting Russophobic initiatives

24 августа 2022

Baltic hatred of everything Soviet has quickly transformed into the usual Russophobia. In Latvia, the concerned nationalists created a petition demanding the expulsion of all Russian-speaking people. Of course, it is unlikely to come to that: however, the President stated that Russian-speaking people (who do not share the policy of official Riga) are liable to isolation. This is not an empty promise. The day before, dozens of people were detained for their disagreement with the demolition of the monument to the soldiers-liberators. In Latvia, they are going to revoke residence permits for citizens of Russia and Belarus (even if these documents have been paid for and their owners have real estate in the country). All three Baltic countries are active supporters of the new Iron Curtain on the borders with Russia: they propose not to issue visas to its citizens anymore!

The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs even suggested asking visitors about the legal status of the Crimea. Those who fail to guess the right answer would have their visas revoked. It took the Baltic States a few months to reach their current level of militancy.  In the near future, it seems, we can expect much more initiatives from them.
