The Council of Europe demands from the official Riga to investigate the actions of the Latvian border guards on the border with Belarus. The Commissioner for Human Rights has sent a letter to the head of the Latvian Interior Ministry, in which Dunja Mijatovic expressed concern about the mistreatment of refugees. Latvian border guards used force during the crisis on the border to prevent migrants from entering the territory of their country. They were also denied asylum applications. Those from the Middle East who did get into Latvia were kept in inhumane conditions in the woods, said a letter from a Council of Europe commissioner. The official demanded from Riga unconditional compliance with the European Convention on Human Rights.
