Active battles in the industrial zone of Avdeevka started on Sunday. According to the statements of the staff of the anti-terrorist operation, the militia tried to seize the position of the Ukrainian military. Shelling was followed by the massive assault on the settlement. According to various estimates, 7 to 15 people died. Dozens were wounded. Civilians are among the victims. Thousands of residents of the Donetsk region were left without water, electricity and heat supply. In Donetsk, the Zasyadko mine has been de-energized. More than 200 miners are blocked underground.
Today, the situation in Avdeevka will be discussed by the OSCE Permanent Council. President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko also urges to convene an emergency meeting of the Trilateral contact group. It may be held in the form of a videoconference. Tomorrow a scheduled meeting will be held in Minsk with participation of negotiators from Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE.
