Russia will not put to a vote a draft resolution on a cease-fire in Ukraine in the UN Security Council. It was supposed to be considered today. According to the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN, Western countries put pressure on members of the organization not to support the Russian initiative. Vassily Nebenzya pointed to those who are adding oil to the flame of the Ukrainian conflict.
Vassily Nebenzya, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations:
Almost every day we see reports from Western capitals about new shipments of all sorts of weapons to Kiev. Just yesterday, Washington announced that it will deliver $1 billion worth of defense aid to Ukraine as early as this week. You are adding oil to this conflict. It is already obvious to what a tragedy the uncontrolled distribution of mere light weapons to all comers has led to.
"Are Western voters and taxpayers aware of the risks of getting these MANPADS to terrorist groups in Europe? Are you aware of the danger of stoking up the situation in Ukraine for your own security?" asked Vassily Nebenzya.
