Riga demands from Belgium to preserve Latvian Nazis monument

The glorification of Nazism in Europe, in which Ukraine so dreamed of earning a place, has become a familiar reality. However, an incidental story unfolded around the monument to the Latvian legionnaires of the Waffen SS in the Belgian Zedelgem.

The municipality decided to demount this monument. It is dedicated to the captured Latvian Nazis imprisoned in the local camp after World War II, who voluntarily served in the troops of Nazi Germany. Now the Latvian ambassador to Belgium has sent a note to the Belgian Foreign Ministry demanding to preserve the monument. It is worthy of note that Riga is outraged by the lack of support over dismantling the Latvian Occupation Museum.

This also reminds of what Latvia did to the monument to the Soviet Liberators of Riga, when it unilaterally broke an agreement with Russia on the protection of memorial sites.
