The Ukrainian military broke through the roof of a special building where fuel for reactors is stored as a result of shelling at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, RIA Novosti reported, citing the Zaporizhia regional authorities.

"This building stores fresh fuel for c ZNPP reactors," Vladimir Rogov, a spokesman for the Zaporizhzhya regional administration, wrote in his Telegram channel, attaching photos of the roof of the damaged storage facility. The regional authorities specified that the situation is under control, the radiation background is normal.

Zaporizhzhya NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, near Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, this is necessary to prevent the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continue to regularly shell Energodar, surrounding villages, and the Zaporizhzhya NPP area adjacent to the city.
