Under the cover of a new law, Poland turned back another humanitarian convoy, which was heading to the border. The public figures of the country, together with members of the European Parliament, tried to smuggle aid to refugees. However, they were not allowed there. The delegation was forced to hold a press conference right in the forest and address the Polish people and the world community.
Members of the European Parliament could not hide their shock at the inhuman law (the fact that the Polish government does not abide by the rule of the European law has long been known). Now the MEPs saw it with their own eyes. Janina Ochojska, a prominent Polish public figure, was also present in the group. She stated that she could not allow people to die in the forest.
Janina Ochojska, social activist, head of Polish Humanitarian Action:
The cruelty of the ruling regime shocks me. The authorities passed this law without thinking at all about those people who are freezing in the forest. It is directed against all those who need help. I think it is especially cruel that medics and NGOs are not allowed into the zone.
